Japan does something to a certain kind of traveller that no other country does. It makes them quieter. Not bored — quieter. You start noticing things you would have walked past everywhere else. The way a shopkeeper wraps something. The silence in a ramen shop where everyone is focused entirely on their bowl. The fact that no one bumps into you on a crowded street.
I have seen travellers come back from Japan and describe it as the trip that reset something in them. That does not happen in two weeks at a resort. It happens when you slow down enough for the place to reach you.
If you are the kind of person who notices the way a garden is raked, Japan will give you more than you can carry home.
